Programs

Today, Barat carries out our mission through:

Our American Voice

Our American Voice is a civics education and engagement program that enables elementary, middle, and high school students to develop a deeper understanding of the American democratic process. The program empowers students to appreciate the critical role that citizens play in a democratic society and explore how they can work together to solve specific issues and create positive change within their communities.

Teaching with Primary Sources

Teaching with Primary Sources in partnership with the Library of Congress, provides free professional development training to teachers to identify and utilize the Library’s vast collection of digitized, primary sources to promote student critical thinking skills.

Joan Lueder Coffey Ignatian Volunteer Service Award

The Joan Lueder Coffey Ignatian Volunteer Service Award supports annual placement of an IVC volunteer in the Chicago Metro area. This year’s recipients are Hope Gillespie, Howard Area Community Center and, Susan McGowan, Josephinum Academy.

Barat Scholars

Barat Scholars is an endowed scholarship that supports students at Woodlands Academy, Lake Forest, IL. Barat continues to support a scholarship at Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart in Chicago.  In 2015/2016 we partnered with alumnae from Barat College Class of 1966 raising $15,750 in scholarship support for Josephinum.
