In the words of Albert Schweitzer “At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.”
When DePaul University closed Barat College in 2005, the Barat Education Foundation Board voted to remain independent developing and supporting programs that aligned with the College’s legacy. Barat educated students to be socially aware so as to impel to action. It educated students to be leaders in their community, to know how to care and to act on it – no small challenge. Today throughout Illinois, Our American Voice ® (OAV) is providing an innovative and interactive, action-learning program that encourages students to fully understand the need for a public voice and appreciate their rights and their responsibilities as citizens
A copy of the Foundation’s 990 and audited report will be available at the end of January and you can request a copy through email or a call to our offices.
On behalf of our fellow Barat board members, our teachers and wonderful students. thank you for lighting the flame, and we wish you new dreams, new hopes, new community experiences in 2017.

“My American dream is for people to stand up for what’s right. People come to America because you can be who you are, but sometimes it isn’t always like that. Some people are too afraid to stand up for what’s right. I hope as I grow my generation will stand up for each other no matter where we come from.”
